Western Digital pays $65M for SSD market

Western Digital has bought SiliconSystems corporation for 65 million dollars, informs Computerworld. This transaction will allow Western Digital to start release solid-state (SSD) disk drives under an own brand. Company SiliconSystems has been created in 2002. She is engaged both release of solid-state disk drives, and development of technologies for rise of their reliability. In particular, SiliconSystems has created program PowerArmor preventing appearance of errors by operation of the disk drive. While representatives Western Digital have not sounded any schedules on release of SSD-stores under an own brand. SiliconSystems before absorption released various disk drives on the basis of the flash-memory. Among them SSD-stores in 2,5 and 1,8-inch form factors which can substitute the hard disk in notebooks and netbooks. Western Digital is the second-large manufacturer of hard disks in the world. The leader of this market - company Seagate. It should start release of solid-state disk drives till the end of 2009. The main advantages of solid-state disk drives before hard disks are low power consumption and an operation high speed. Besides, SSD-stores do not rustle. However their cost price considerably above, than for hard disks.
