Nokia to cut 1700 jobs worldwide

The Finnish corporation Nokia, the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones, has declared abbreviation of 1700 persons worldwide within the limits of the program on lowering of expenditures in crisis. About it it is told in the official press release published on a site of the company. Dismissals will concern employees of departments of marketing, sales, and also technologies, marks MarketWatch. Reductions of the staff should help to the company to lower negative effect from falling of demand for mobile phones. On the end of 2007 in corporation worked 122 thousand persons. Earlier it was informed that since March, 1st, 2009 in Nokia implementation of the program of voluntary retirement will start. It will be completed or on May, 31st, or with dismissal of the thousand employee at own will. In the end of January, 2009 Nokia has reported about net profit lowering in the fourth quarter 2008 on 60 percent - to 576 million euro. As the reason the world financial crisis which has lowered demand for many goods, including mobile phones has served.

Nokia announced the first phone with the built in radio antenna

Nokia announced three new mobile phones. Nokia 5730 XpressMusic, Nokia 5330 XpressMusic and Nokia 5030. They will appear on counters till the end of current year. On it it is informed in press release Nokia. Nokia 5030 it has appeared the cheapest among the presented novelties - its price will not exceed 40 euros. Besides, it became the first phone Nokia with the built in radio antenna. It means that for radio listening to Nokia 5030 it is not necessary to connect ear-phones or columns. Usually the wire of ear-phones or the columns connected to phone, carries out a role of the aerial which catches a radio signal. Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is executed in shape slider with the qwerty-keyboard put forward sideways. Thus under the mobile phone screen there is a standard alphanumeric keyboard. Phone supports game service N-Gage and other appendices. Its cost will make 280 euros. Musical phone Nokia 5330 XpressMusic is executed in the form of classical slider. On its case there is a 3,5-millimetric socket for connection of ear-phones, and the battery of a mobile phone will suffice on listening of music within 26 hours. To buy 5330 XpressMusic it will be possible since the third quarter 2009 for 160 euros. Also in press release Nokia it is informed that by this time the company has sold more than 425 million devices with the built in musical player. Thus mobile phones and smart phones with the FM-tuner it has been sold more than 700 million.

President of Nokia has confirmed interest in the company to market notebooks

Nokia is considering entering the market of notebooks, reports Reuters referring to the statement by the President of Nokia Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo (Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo).
For the first time rumors of Nokia plans to release a laptop there at the end of 2008. Prior to this statement by the President of Nokia, they are not confirmed.

Company CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood (Ben Wood) finds that Nokia will face certain difficulties in entering the market for notebook PCs. However, large manufacturing capacity, established distribution channels and customers to the brand will help Nokia company to develop a new market.

President of Nokia said that currently the line between cell phones and laptops blurred. In particular, many laptops is built module 3G, but the functionality of smartphones increases.

Note that many manufacturers of cellular phones produced laptops, for example, Samsung and LG, taken in 2008, the second and third largest number of sold cell phones. Moreover, as communicators, and laptops produced by such companies as Acer, Asus, HP and Lenovo.
